Our home in the coffee
Rai Cottage is a homestay of five cottages in the middle of a 4.5 acre coffee plantation in Suntikoppa, Coorg. It is 2 km inside from the Bengaluru–Mysuru–Madikeri highway, far enough from the road that you hear birds and not traffic.
The cottages
The cottages are built with earthen tiled roofs and red brick walls, with the estate as the backdrop. The greenery keeps the area cool and calm through the year. Rooms are spacious, tidy and well kept, with the basic essentials you need for a stay.
The food
Meals are homemade, local and Mangalorean style. The spices come from around the cottage. In the evening the weather turns chilly, and dinner by a bonfire under the stars is the usual way to end the day.
The estate
The host is an avid farmer. He grows coffee, pepper, paddy, bananas, oranges and many wild fruit trees on the estate. Take a walk on the trails, through the fragrance of coffee blossoms and the sound of birds, and see firsthand how coffee and spices are grown and processed.
